GOSH at Hacktoberfest 2022
GOSH is participating in Hacktoberfest 2022! Named after the famed Bavarian festival, Hacktoberfest is a celebration less of beer, but rather of open source software. The collaborative spirit that makes software better is on full display. And GOSH invites you all to join in.
Hacktoberfest is an annual event hosted by DigitalOcean. It encourages people from all over the world to give back to the open source community by contributing to open source repositories, completing pull/merge requests, and participating in events throughout the month of October.
Modern tech infrastructure is inexorably linked to myriads of open source projects. These are often built and maintained by passionate people who, very unfortunately, don’t have the staff or budget to do much more than keep their project alive. Hacktoberfest is an event built to right this wrong; it’s all about giving back to those projects, sharpening skills, and celebrating all things open source, especially the people that make it so special.
As you may have guessed from our name (Git Open Source Hodler), we love open source. We built GOSH as a way to advance avenues of open software development, be they old or new, using decentralized blockchain technology; an innovation we adamantly believe is a milestone in the illustrious history of computing.
GOSH takes this innovation to the next level. As a decentralized community git that runs entirely on the blockchain, GOSH is purpose-built for securing the software supply chain. It is the first and only formally verified Git implementation. And it allows developers to build a layer of structural security smart contracts on their code, making it the first platform where the more code you write, the more secure it becomes
GOSH was launched on May 10th at DockerCon in partnership with Docker. The GOSH Docker Extension is a tool built entirely to secure the software supply chain and build consensus around your code. Moreover, it is the next revolutionary step to extend monetization, decentralization, and security to all developers and all the source code they write.
How you can help
All of us here at GOSH are working day and night on advancing these innovations and making these aims a reality. And we would like to invite you to join.
For the next two weeks you can contribute to the open source repository of our Docker Extension. We accept any plugins and integrations with GOSH for any third party tools, e.g. for project management, CI/CD, or any other tools to improve GOSH usability, or add-ons to a user’s experience. You are also welcome to come up with any of your own ideas.
While GOSH Tokens are not for sale, they can be earned through contributions to the GOSH repository. This is why in return for your participation, provided that you submit your commits to GOSH, we will distribute additional rewards of up to 10,000 future GOSH Tokens for accepted commits.
